The comment by Peter Drucker, “the aim of marketing is to make selling unnecessary”, is a brilliant explanation of what marketing is. Marketing is all about researching and understanding the ever changing needs and demands of your customers. Marketing is offering an affordable solution to these needs (whilst generation a profit) which will attract and satisfy your customers so that the product or service will ultimately sell itself.
Lee. Very good. I like that you picked up Peter Drucker’s statement. It truly is the essence of marketing. Could you give me an example of how a product can “sell itself?”
The most obvious aim of marketing would be to sell and promote either a product you’re trying to sell or a service you want to render. Before starting the marketing process, the first step would be to know your customers needs and expectations. With this bit of info, selling your product would be a breeze (a great success).
Absolutely Callan. Once you understand what you customer’s actually want, with just a little bit of research (often just a simple conversation) you will find that your business will actually be in a better position to serve client needs. Could you give me and example of how a corner cafe could get a better understanding of its customer’s needs?
from my understanding, i think marketing concentrates on its market i.e. the group of people and also what the product or service offers rather than the product itself. marketing tries to create benefits for the target market by researching and showing what a product abd brand can do for them.
I like that you have picked up that the benefits are what is important, not the product itself. Well done. Can you think of an example to illustrate the difference between a product and the benefits of using it?
Usually confused to selling, but it involves more of a thinking process which means its more of a lon term process rather than selling. Marketing assits in meeting the objectives of a certain operation thus producing a profit and at the same time meeting the demaands of the consumer in offering them value for money. All marketing services revolve around CVP.
Very good. We should not confuse marketing with selling. And yes, marketing is more long-term oriented. It thinks of long-term profitable customer relationships rather than short term profits. Why do you say that all marketing services revolve around the CVP?

Marketing is the process and strategy that is powerful and successfull when you promoting a product to the consumers,take into account the demands and expectations of consumers.
Lwando. Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right, but can you tell me why it is very important to take the demands and expectations of the consumer into consideration?
My understanding is that marketing is usually confused by the term as selling but it is not. it is focus on the customer. what the customer wants and needs. above all its more about the consumer. building a relationship with consumer. Finding out what they want and then by their feedback you producea product. its about satisfying the customer needs

for me, marketing, in many ways is used basically to focus on the customer. marketing is not selling. is rather keeping the customer happy at all times( to focus on the customer).marketing therefore is a tool or rather a process which is mostly to determine what products or services may be interesting to the customer. they focus on the specific needs needs and wants of the customer in order to satisfy the customer. with good marketing, a product will be well sold.
Anchan. Good, marketing is definitely not selling. Instead it is focusing on the customer. Tell me, how can a local butcher focus on the needs of the customer more and ensure they stay happy?
This clarifies the idea that most people have of marketing that it is selling a product or service. Marketing actually focuses on the customers wants and needs, understands what basic wants and needs the customer has, providing them with a product or service to satisfy that want or need and communicating to them that the service or product is available to them. This is essential to ensure your business is a success. Marketing should be about making the customer seek you out for whatever you have to offer instead of you having to try to sell it to them. Also the market has changed from being a physical place of buying and selling and now refers to different groups of customers that are buyers. These customers are a crucial part of any business as they are the ones that will make it successful and profitable, if they are satisfied, by spreading word of any good service or product they have purchased.

Tell me, what do you think are good ways in which a local bakery could ensure that the customer seeks them out? (Could you think of a local bakery that is doing this well?)
marketing is usually long term oriented reforms,that brings about customer relationships by delivering superior customer value and satisfaction; thereby making profits on the otherside.
marketing comprises everything that has to do with getting product to the potential customers through sales, public relation,pricing, packaging and disrtibution

Marketing concentrate a lot on the customers needs and wants, and the demand for the product or service, than selling. It is the process of keeping consumers satisfied all the time, and it focuses on certain target market and making profit at the same time. Marketing creates a good relationship between you and your clients, to understand how consumers behave, rather than forcing them to buy your product.
Depicting from the video, my understanding of Marketing is now much clear than before. Having the idea that marketing is much like “selling” I now know that there are many steps involved before selling comes into place. Marketing is about knowing and identifying a need for a product or service that you are capable of providing and then creating it your aim to satisfy that need and making your target market aware thereof. It does not involve persuasion necessarily but more so the confidence of knowing that your product or service will indeed sell. Effective marketing is thus the key to a sucessful business and ensuring maximum profits.
Marketing is a management process that helps identifies potential customers and their needs. the aim is selling product to the right target market at a reasonable price while making the profit. effective communication is critical here to make sure that your business is doing better than the competition.
marketing , from what i understand, is the collective group of buyers who get targeted by sellers to buy certain products through advertising and promotion of these specific products with the aim of promoting the buyers satisfaction and ultimately gaining their trust 😉
what i learned is the difference between marketind and selling,how to use it in your business.I also learnt that marketing is about giving to the consumers and how it is distributed in business.Lastly marketing has a continuous cycle which will determine what will work or not work in your business………………….
I found the video interesrting for the fact that it clearly stated that there is a difference between marketing and selling, and that marketing is about giving to the consumers. When marketing the CVP rule should be followed.
The 1st step would be to observe… To see whats popular and whats not so popular. Thats a good starting point. Focus on whats not so important and figure out why thats the case. Compare it to the popular product and try to make adjustments.

i take it that marketing, is an outcome of two groups working together, the buyers and sellers, without the buyers there is no selling and without sellers there is no buyers, but this includes communication, without communication and research then the sellers donot understand their market and the needs of their customers because inturn, in a market the sellers need feedback from buyers to know if their products satisfies their needs. and again for trust seller need to provide products that have been evaluated and that they know is of good quality to gain trust and a good reputation of the product, so it could be an ongoing product.

Marketing activities include market research, to find out what groups of customers exist, what their needs are, which of those needs you can meet, how you should meet them, etc. marketing also includes analyzing the competition, positioning your new product and pricing your products and services.
