    Twitter! 🙂

Twitter is a HUGE marketing tool for any business. It can fall under the following marketing communication categories:
    1. Advertising – non-personal communication about the business and its offerings.
    2. PR & publicity – huge technique to generate publicity though status updates about what’s new and happening in the business, uploading pictures etc, as well as through other tweeters, who could mention it and spread the word, especially with the use of a hash tag, creating the business as a topic of discussion.
    3. Direct marketing – the company can come into direct contact with its followers, who would essentially be considered its target audience!
    4. Personal selling – customers can contact the business and speak to its owners directly about enquiries or complaints or purchases. In this way the business can more easily persuade a potential customer to purchase its food products.

    Marketing strategy:
To market the business on twitter, its twitter name should firstly be eye-catching and to the point (preferably simply just the name of the business!)
The style in which the tweets are written must suit the target audience that the food store desires to attract (eg. if the market is young, working people on the go, “youthful jargon” could be used, but still written professionally, ie. not sms style, to be taken seriously.
The aim should be to tweet regularly (at least once a day) to keep followers informed about the business (esp. of specials to draw customers to the shop) and remind them that it exists, but not to shower their home page with news, which can be really off-putting and make the business seem desperate.
Photos of the food offered should be posted regularly… When in comes to selling food, visual aids are a HUGE must to attract customers!
A good biography of the business is essential: it should, in only a few words, describe exactly what the business is about and all it has to offer. The way in which the biography is written and described should relate to the target market that the food store wishes to reach.

    Email marketing!!
It is a form of direct-internet-marketing which uses electronic mail to communicate to current and prospective customers.
Email marketing is as useful tool to enhance the relationship with current or old customers and to encourage customers’ loyalty and push a repeat business.
Emails might also be sent with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing moved away customers to buy something immediately or only to stay in customers mind a be present all the time.
    Strategy:
Via the CPUT-Email-Server we could send a weekly meal-plan and even special dayly offers on all student cput-email-address.
There should also be a reply-option for customers with a special diet to place their orders in advance to be assured that they will be provided with a special meal.
From time to time we could send out something like rabatt-coupons to pay 10% less only when showing the printed out coupon.
Via Email marketing we can be present in students minds and with special offers and services offered, we can make them curious to visit our kiosk and test our service.

Email marketing is a cost-effective way to reach a vast number of students and to attreckt new students even from other faculties, which we might not reach with print advertising around or via word-of-mouth advertising around our building.

    Email Marketing
It is form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail to communicate with its recipients which can be prospective customers, current customers or moved away (former) customers.
By sending advertising emails, merchants try to enhance relationship with their current customers, try to attract new customers by special offers and win back old customers with offering better products/price/service than the competition and win them back.
Offering special terms or bonuses are used to build up a customer loyalty.
    Strategy:
We could use the CPUT-email-account to send out a weekly meal-plan to each and every student and to advertise special offers or promotions.
In this way, we can also reach students from other faculties which we might not have heard of our service by word-to-mouth advertisement or by overlooking printed ads!
By sending rebate-coupons (i.e. Pay 10% less on…) every now and then, we can attract customers to read our emails and to come to our shop and try out new specialties for a minor price.
Furthermore, we should have a ‘Reply-option’ for students to order their meal easily in advance and also for students which need a special diet to place their demands in advance so that they can be assured to get their special meal. The advantages of Email marketing are to reach a vast number of students on a cost-effective way and to be able to communicate with them via ‘Reply-option’.

    Gumtree!!!!!!! http://www.gumtree .co.za

The consumer science food production is a small group based in Cape Town; hence the target customers for any advertisments and or product promotion should be people living in Western Cape. hence the medium chosen for the products and service marketing purpose should target such people. This is the eason why gumtreein suggested. There is also a section for sellers and buyers to log unto the local sections

Gumtree started as web based interactive medium, where people that have items for sale put them up and ask to be contacted via email or telephones. Buyers also check on the page for items of interest. Nowadays part-timers and people of small scale are also using the medium to advertise thier services and products.

Firstly, the Consumer Science Food Production service must be well versed when it comes to the in thing. That is, exactly what the comsumers are into nowadays. What really facinates them and catches their eye. This department will have to design a website in order to reach the target market. They will put a catchy website title, the description of the website, include interesting and relevant pictures to emphasise on who they are and what they do/offer. They also need to give specific advantages of their organisation yet they also have to be realistic. On the webpage there must be many options for the consumer, that is if the want to comment they can, the contact details must be clearly visible as well so as to easily interact with the clients.
This will fall into both the Advertising and Personal selling marketing communication category.

    Our very own Website!

It can be a lot of fun. We can incorporate different aspects of the course.
E.g. Using our marketing and management skills, that you so kindly teach us, to promote the products on the webpage.

When the products are being tested before the production day, photos can be taken to add to the advert for the week. We all eat with our eyes! This will also prepare us for our food styling component of communication in our 3rd year. (Plus the tech has a camrea).

We can have a section on the webpage where small demonstartions are posted, for example howe to “build a croquembouch” where the selected student will use his/hers demonstration/public speaking skills. Plus, make it more interesting- people will visit the site on a more regular basis and see the special for the week. 🙂

This will also open us to the new the “internet world” of business and teach us how to run

    a webpage successfully.
